Periods are very annoying days due to menstrual cramps and headache but also amazing thing our body goes through. Here are simple steps you could follow to ease your period struggles.
I was born in typical indian family where talking about periods is a big no -no. Since I did not know which pad to use and when to use them wisely. We have panty liners, ordinary pads, large pads and xl pads or overnight pads. panty liners can be used before your period when you keep track on them or after your periods for spotting. Ordinary pads are for 3rd or 4th day of periods when you have little flow. Large pads are for 1st and 2nd days of periods when some women have heavy flow. Finally xl pads or over night pads are for heavy flow or for night time when you sleep. They give you extra coverage when you sleep so that there is no leakage. Panty liners are comparitively small than other pads and does not have wings.
Invest in a hot water bottle which you can keep on your stomach to relieve period pain. Or you could DIY hot water bottle in couple of minutes. Take a clean socks and fill them with rice leaving some space for the rice to move around the socks. Tie the knot to prevent spill. Microwave the socks for two minutes. Make sure the socks is not so hot to keep on your stomach. Place it on your stomach; and you get instant hot water bottle to heal your cramps.
Its best to avoid caffeinated drinks during your periods. Drinking coffee or tea might increase cramps during periods so its better to drink 1- 2 cups a day if you really want to have them. Also start having warm green tea which has less caffeine compared to regular tea during your periods. Salty food will dehydrate your body during periods and will worsen pms. It also gives subsequent bloating which is not a good thing.
On a daily basis if you need to stay hydrated you might need to drink 7 to 8 glasses of water on a daily basis. However having one glass at a time would make your stomach bloat. Now the trick is to sip the drink frequently so that your stomach wont bloat right away. And also include cut fruits in your water if you want some tasty water which is also good for your body and skin.
Warm water
Drink luke warm water or any other tea (green tea or tulsi tea) to relax your muscles while you go through period cramps and feel uncomfortable. Warm water really helps easing the period pain, while cold water does not help well with the pain.
Dark chocolate and bananas
Chocolates are the best friend for any women who are going through period days. Swap chocolates with 70% dark chocolates which has nutrients to equalize your magnesium level which gets low while you are on your periods. Bananas are rich in vitamin B6 and potassium; which will help you with muscle cramps during periods.
Carry a fancy little cosmetic pouch to carry your pads, make sure the pouch is bright and sparkling. People might think you are carrying makeup products not sanitary napkins inside the fancy pouch. Take a empty highlighter pen from school supplies to hide your tampons, take out the ink sponge from inside and applicator in the front. Then slip your tampons inside the empty highlighter pen. Carry a couple of pads in the kit always with extra small panty. Include baby rash cream which is inexpensive and at the same time reduces any itchiness around that area. Track your period
You can track your period by writing it down on a personal diary which is a old gold way. Or now a days there multiple apps to track your periods to know your date and be prepared. These apps also help calculate your fertile days for your pregnancy.
Supposedly if you found yourself without pads or tampons on those days what you can do is to use tissue paper as temporary pad. Tissue paper should be folded in both lengthways and widthways or can also be tightly rolled. Keep tightly rolled or properly folded tissue paper in place of your pad. It will help you for maybe 10 to 15 minutes until you find your saviour (pad).
Lavender oil is very mild and soothing and will stimulate hair growth and treat pimples and acne. It will also help with lifting your mood while you are on your periods. Applying couple of drops on your palm and applying on your stomach with light massage will help reduce the period cramps. Especially when you have to go out on your periods you can massage them on your stomach. While going out we obviously will not have time for hot water bottle press; take two drops of lavender oil and apply them on your stomach to reduce cramps.

How many times have we got stains on our favourite bedsheet and regretted every single period morning? You can keep large towel or dry sheet beneath you before sleeping which prevents stain.
